‘Queen of Cleaning’ passes on top tips

She’s affectionately known as the “Queen of Cleaning” and her loyal subjects were in for a right royal treat.

After 40 years in the cleaning industry Dawne Glenie has seen it all. Dawne was on hand to pass on her top tips and industry experience to franchisees during the Master Cleaners Training Institute’s Module 1 training course.

The course ran for two days and was held at the Allenton Sports Clubrooms. It was attended by franchises from Ashburton and Timaru.

The Master Cleaners Training Institute aims to raise industry standards by equipping Crest personnel with practical cleaning skills and knowledge of the processes and procedures. The course covers Health and Safety, chemical preparation, safe use and safe storage of equipment. The practical task training includes mopping, vacuuming, window and wall washing, damp wiping and polishing.

Robert Glenie, Crest’s South Canterbury Regional Manager, said the training was also a great opportunity for franchisees to ask questions and share ideas.

Having Dawne in charge of the regional training sessions meant franchisees learning from one of the best operators in New Zealand’s cleaning industry, said Rob.

It provided invaluable experience “from someone who knows the job inside out”. And Rob should know as he’s Dawne’s son!

“Dawne is known as the Queen of the cleaning industry,” Rob added. “She has been in the cleaning industry for more than 40 years and is very experienced.”

“What she doesn’t know about cleaning isn’t worth knowing. She has probably come across everything you would likely to come across in the cleaning industry.”

Rob stressed the importance that CrestClean puts on regular training and upskilling sessions.

“Everyone learns something from these training sessions. It’s an industry where you are constantly learning different ways of doing things.

“We want to do the best we can do for our customers. It’s about working smarter and keeping up to date with change.”

As an added bonus, franchisees on the training course had a chance to try out the latest in cleaning machinery. Rob had invited two industry reps to put on a demonstration of floor scrubbers and burnishers.

“Everyone present was amazed at some of the new products and industry machines available. It was a kind of try-before-you-buy experience and it certainly went down very well.”
