It’s not only the quality of his work that CrestClean business owner John Corboy is known for.

His upbeat personality and friendly approach has also led to many positive comments from his customers.

John is a familiar face at Dunedin-based shared business space company Petridish. Owners Jason and Kate Lindsey say they are more than pleased with his work there.

“His cleaning is great but John is also a really friendly person. I always enjoy running into him and having a conversation with him. I’ve got a lot of time for John.”

As well as the office area, John takes care of cleaning a 500sq metre luxury apartment the couple also own and rent out on Airbnb.

“Our penthouse is probably the nicest apartment in town,” says Jason. “We market it to upscale clients who believe me have very high expectations.

“If you look at the reviews often people will say something like “it’s impeccable”, so obviously John is doing a great job.”

Jason says nothing is ever too much trouble for John. “He’s always been unbelievable flexible with us and we really, really like John and we wouldn’t get anyone else to clean our space if we can avoid it.”

Working at Petridish is rewarding, says John. “The people there are very nice and they are young and full of energy and full of ideas. It’s really great to work around positive people.”

John bought a cleaning business after undergoing a liver transplant in 2011. Always fit and active, he’d been involved in the tourist industry as a guide and instructor in various sports and had his own business.

After joining CrestClean he found the nature of the work and flexible working hours suited his new lifestyle.

Giving back is something close to his heart. John has often shared his experience of undergoing lifesaving surgery with the next generation of young doctors. He’s been invited by staff at the University of Otago’s Medical School to speak to students as part of their course.

“I tell my story to the students. When you can give back it makes you feel good too,” he says.

Antoine Zoghbi, one of CrestClean’s Quality Assurance Co-ordinators, works closely with John. “He is the most positive person you could meet,” says Antoine. “He is terrific at his job and has a great relationship with all his customers.”
