CrestClean personnel join volunteers undertaking flax-planting project
CrestClean’s Wellington personnel volunteered their time to join a community-led initiative to safeguard Baring Head.
Hundreds of volunteers have been involved in the winter project to plant 5000 native harakeke.
The CrestClean team was led by Zainab Ali, Wellington Regional Manager, her husband Raj and his sister Radhika Reddy. Personnel from CrestClean’s business partner, Alsco, also attended the event, which was organised by the Sustainable Business Network.
“We planted nearly 70 flaxes,” says Zainab. “It was really quite hard work but it’s going to stop erosion in that area quite significantly.
“The event was in line with our aspirations as a company to have a positive impact on the environment. This was about reinvigorating the area so that wildlife can return, especially the native birds.
“This was the first time for us to attend such a worthy event. CrestClean will continue to support this initiative on a yearly basis and next time we’ll bring along more teams.”
About 40-50 people turned out on the day. “Everyone was in good spirits and we enjoyed the sausage sizzle afterwards that was provided by Alsco,” says Zainab.
