The recent Master Cleaners Training Institute (MCTI) Conference at Auckland’s Jet Park Hotel brought together senior trainers from across the country. General Manager of Training, Liezl Foxcroft, says the conference is a crucial annual event to boost motivation and plan for the year ahead.

“We always have this conference at the beginning of the year, so we can set the direction for the rest of the year. Overcoming adversity was a main theme this year,” says Liezl.

“The team went away fired up and ready to tackle the 2024 calendar to ensure we keep the training standards high.”

Health and Safety was a key focus, with Health, Safety and Well-being Leader, Ian Noon, delivering a workshop on identifying site hazards. The aim was to reiterate the importance of recording site hazards in their health and safety booklet.

“A large focus for Health and Safety this year is getting people to fill out the Health and Safety booklet,” says Liezl.

“The trainers all came away with awareness of why it’s important to follow these procedures.”

The conference featured three guest speakers. James Schofield, Motivational and Lifestyle Speaker and Managing Director of BFT Otahuhu, shared his story over overcoming adversity. James was in a life-altering car crash when he was 19 but now, he owns a very successful fitness franchise.

“It made us all stop and think of the things we moan about every day and to recognise that there’s always a way to overcome adversity,” says Liezl.

Christchurch North Regional Master Franchisee, Yasa Panagoda, also shared his inspiring journey from Sri Lanka to Sydney and, finally, to New Zealand where he has found his feet.

Addressing the emphasis on healthcare in 2024, retired Infection Prevention and Control Specialist Francie Morgan shared anecdotes from her hospital days, adding a touch of humour to each story. Francie is contracted to MCTI to ensure that healthcare training offerings are maintained at the highest standards.

“Healthcare underpins everything because if you get that right, you get everything right,” says Liezl.

“This year, I’d like to focus on developing small, quick modules so people can quickly upskill, so that involves developing more training programmes online, especially in healthcare.”

There was a lot of interaction and Jacqui Buchanan, our new Training and Health and Safety Coordinator also joined the conference, giving her an insight into CrestClean’s commitment to delivering outstanding training.

“All in all, it was a very full but enjoyable two days with good outcomes,” says Liezl.
