Lifelong learner marks 15 years of growth and success

When Sunny Yang first joined CrestClean 15 years ago, he had no idea how much it would shape his life. Over the years, he has had a front row seat watching CrestClean grow into a thriving, nationally recognised brand and feels privileged to be part of the company.
“It has been an incredible journey and one that has shaped not only my career but also my life in ways I could have never imagined,” he says.
After graduating from the University of Canterbury, Sunny took a bold step and purchased a CrestClean franchise. It was a big decision, but one that has paid off in more ways than he expected. Through perseverance and dedication, he has been able to provide for his family, build a comfortable life and achieve many personal milestones like homeownership.
“These are things I am deeply grateful for, and I credit much of it to the opportunities CrestClean has given me,” he says.
Sunny is not someone who simply goes through the motions – he truly loves what he does. Unlike a regular 9-to-5 job, his work gives him flexibility and variety, and he never gets tired of delivering the best service possible.
But success didn’t happen overnight – it took hard work and a constant willingness to learn. Sunny seizes any opportunity to expand his cleaning knowledge. While most people scroll TikTok for fun, he admits he spends his time watching cleaning videos, picking up new tips and techniques. He’s fully immersed in the industry, and his passion for learning has been a driving force behind his success. With AI and robotics transforming various sectors, he’s excited to see what the future holds for the next generation of CrestClean franchise owners.
Despite his success, Sunny’s journey hasn’t always been easy. Just two years into running his franchise, the 2010 earthquake struck Christchurch, damaging many customer sites and disrupting work for cleaning teams. With the support of his fellow franchisees and a determination to push through, Sunny persevered and slowly rebuilt his customer base, emerging stronger than ever.
“CrestClean grew much bigger than before, so it was worth it for us to hold that faith,” he says.
In his time as a franchise owner, Sunny has not only grown his business but has also become a trusted mentor for new franchisees. Known for his friendly and helpful nature, he’s always available to support others, whether it’s learning how to use specialised equipment or solving an issue on-site, Sunny is just a phone call away.
“I try to be a stable person and a loyal person. No matter who needs me, they can give me a call,” he says.
Sunny is particularly grateful for the support of Regional Master Franchisee Yasa Panagoda and the wider CrestClean management team, who have provided invaluable guidance, encouragement and training.
“This journey has taught me the value of hard work, the importance of a supportive team and the reward of perseverance,” he says.
Fifteen years in and Sunny remains as passionate as ever about his work and the future of the cleaning industry.
“Thank you CrestClean for being such a significant part of my life and for helping me build a future I am proud of.”
