CrestClean’s Yasa Panagoda made sure plenty of “mud” was left behind when he visited two Christchurch schools on their special day.

Yasa, Christchurch North Regional Manager, turned up laden with a large chocolate mud cake to help celebrate St Patrick’s Day – and his surprise sweet treat hit the mark with school staff.

First on Yasa’s list was Christchurch’s St Patrick’s School. Principal Tom Wallis, who was on the sports field teaching cricket when Yasa arrived, was bowled over by his special delivery.

“He said ‘wow’ and a couple of teachers came up and he said ‘look what Crest has organised for us’,” said Yasa.

Marking significant events on the school calendar was all part of CrestClean’s community involvement, added Yasa.

“We feel part of the school community and want to support such occasions. This is a small way we can say a big thank you to our valued school customers.”

St Patrick’s Day traditionally commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. Celebrations often involve public parades and festivals, ceilidhs, and the wearing of green attire or shamrocks.

A second cake, also from the renowned bakery Divine Cakes & Desserts and decorated with a green shamrock emblem, was dropped off at St Patrick’s School, Kaiapoi.

“St Patrick’s Day is a big thing for the schools. Principals and teachers want to celebrate the day with the kids,” said Yasa.

Yasa delivered the boxed-up cake to School Secretary Angela Stuart. “She was absolutely over the moon. They absolutely loved it.

“School staff were thrilled to receive this. It is always a pleasure to be a part of school celebrations and share the joy.”
