Cleaning? It’s what I really love!
Running his own cleaning business couldn’t be a better fit for Kamal Singh.
The 26-year-old franchisee happily confessed that having things clean and tidy is a passion that extends to all areas of his life, and cleaning has become a bit of a ‘hobby’ that he really enjoys.
And after a day cleaning for his customers, Kamal even remains in work mode when he gets home. He admits he can’t relax until everything is in order.
“When I come home after work I can’t sit down if things aren’t tidy. Even before I change out of my uniform I have to have things clean and tidy before I can really relax.”
Having everything looking spic and span brings personal pride, he says. “When your home is clean and then someone comes to visit you they will praise you and say it looks a nice and clean house.”
As a student studying for a business diploma, Kamal set the bar high with his fellow flatmates. “I couldn’t accept an untidy room,” he said with a smile.
Kamal’s high standards and business acumen have reaped rewards since he joined Crest in November. He recently relocated to Taupo from Whakatane as part of CrestClean’s Move to the Regions Programme.
The programme pays up to $3,000 relocation costs to help families settle to areas where Crest needs personnel.
Bill Douglas, CrestClean’s Regional Manager for Rotorua, Whakatane and Taupo, said Kamal is a great franchisee. “Everything he does is very business-like and he gives 100 per cent to each job he goes to.
“He’s very obliging and communicates very well with his customers and he has excellent customer service skills.
“It’s very satisfying to have seen him move to Taupo and increase the size of his business.”
Kamal, who is originally from the Punjab region of India, initially bought a small Crest franchise in Whakatane before moving to Taupo last month.
He loves the lifestyle and working hours he has in the Central North Island tourist town and says his fellow franchisees have been very welcoming.
“They are very friendly team and the customers are great. It’s a very multicultural place to live.”
And Kamal and his wife Imderbir, who also works with him, are expecting their first child in June.
Before he bought a Crest franchise Kamal worked for Z and was a site manager at Z Kawerau for two years. He says he doesn’t miss the long hours he worked in his previous role before starting his own business.
Taupo ticks all the boxes in terms of lifestyle and a desirable place to live, he says.
“We are looking to buy our own home in Taupo next year. With Crest you get plenty of time for your family.”
