Rotorua franchisees on a training course to learn the secrets of floor care had a lot of information to soak up.

But the hard yards put in now will pay dividends in future, says CrestClean’s Regional Manager Bill Douglas.

Bill, who is an expert on how to clean and protect a wide range of floor surfaces, was delivering the course for the Master Cleaners Training Institute.

When a franchisee becomes qualified as a Hard Floor Care specialist it broadens the type of work they can take on, he added.

Each year more than 200 training events are run for CrestClean’s franchisees nationwide. Personnel receive annual upskilling and regular auditing is carried out by the company’s Quality Assurance Co-ordinators.

The Hard Floor Care course is delivered in two modules and a major part of the course is centred on health and safety.

“Nobody is allowed to use a buffer or do any floors until they’ve completed the first stage of the course,” says Bill.

“And they can’t carry out any stripping and polishing work until they’ve been through the second stage of the course.”

Day two and three of the course covers additional techniques, including stripping, polishing, and sealing floor surfaces.

Looking after floors is a specialist job as each surface requires a different treatment, Bill added. “You’ve got to be able to identify the type of floor surface you’re dealing with.”

He said customers can be assured the work carried out by CrestClean personnel was in capable hands. “Any franchisee who comes in to do a strip and polish or buff your floors has been fully trained.”

The first stage of the training was staged at Otonga School, Rotorua. Bill was pleased how it had gone. “It was a great day and everyone did really well.”
