Shine hasn’t worn off for hard floor cleaning trainer

When he first got behind a polishing machine four years ago, Randeep Singh took an instant shine to hard floor cleaning.

Since then he has trained all 13 franchisees in the South Canterbury region, five of whom have completed their advanced training to become hard floor care specialists.

Randeep’s latest trainees — Sandeep Kumar, Nilo Pombo, Vivian Abuyabor, Joy Pombo and Ian Abuyabor — were recently taken through their paces at Marchwiel BestStart early learning centre in Timaru, completing the Master Cleaners Training Institute’s Introduction to Floor Care Module 1 and 2.

“They were pretty happy,” says Randeep.

“I really enjoy training other people and passing on the knowledge I have so they can do a good job and keep their customers happy.”

CrestClean’s first South Canterbury franchisee, Randeep qualified as a hard floor care specialist after just six months and a trainer soon after. He is also the region’s only carpet care expert.

“I can do everything!” he says.

He believes a shiny, gleaming floor is the rock star of the cleaning world.

“That’s what you first notice on site. When you walk into a pre-school, or a school, or an office, people don’t’ see what’s in the corner, they notice the shine on the floor.”

South Canterbury Regional Manager Robert Glenie says demand for CrestClean’s hard floor cleaning service in the region is growing.

“We are the only company in the region that actually trains its hard floor care staff — with a certificate to say that they are qualified,” he says.

“And, we’re a one-stop-shop. We can offer anything from floor restoration, to sourcing mats to protect the floor and help the polish last longer.”

Using an unqualified floor cleaner can leave businesses vulnerable if something goes wrong, he points out.

“If the cleaner is using a piece of machinery they haven’t been trained to use and they put it through a window, then the customer’s insurance can be voided,” says Robert.

“We take over some sites that are horror stories. Someone will have put four coats of polish on a floor without cleaning it first, so you’ve got dirt and hair embedded in the polish. We have to strip it all off and bring it back to new again.”

But, with Randeep’s enthusiasm, the future of hard floors in South Canterbury is in safe hands. “Randeep’s a very passionate guy about his floors, and he’s a very good trainer,” says Robert.
