Liezl shares her insights from ISSA Expo in Melbourne

CrestClean General Manager Training, Liezl Foxcroft, and her workshop group at the 2023 ISSA Cleaning & Hygiene Expo in Melbourne

CrestClean’s General Manager Training, Liezl Foxcroft, attended the ISSA Cleaning & Hygiene Expo in Melbourne last November, where she took a deep dive into the world of cleaning and hygiene.

The ISSA Cleaning & Hygiene Expo brings industry peers together for two full days of information sharing, relationship building and discovering product innovations. With over 100 exhibitors spanning 22 countries, Liezl felt this was an event not to be missed.

Sure enough, she arrived to find the expo humming with live demonstrations and incredible technologies. Roaming robots, anyone? It was amazing to see the many new solutions shaping the cleaning industry.

The expo welcomed the who’s who of the cleaning industry, including business owners, building service contractors, wholesalers, suppliers and – of course – training managers like Liezl.

With too much to see and not enough time, Liezl chose the events most relevant to her role at CrestClean.

Liezl decided to attend two workshops where the attendees were divided into small groups of up to 10 people, offering an intimate networking opportunity.

“We were a mixed bunch,” says Liezl. From business owners to employees, the workshops gave everyone a chance to share their experiences, particularly regarding training.

“It was great to hear others’ stories and know we all deal with the same day-to-day issues of people not following procedures even though they get training,” says Liezl.

The first workshop that piqued Liezl’s interest was titled Cleaning and Thriving: Unleashing the Power of your Cleaning for Health Story, led by Gavin McGreggor Skinner – Senior Director of GBAC (Global Biorisk Advisory Council). Gavin asked attendees to share their company story, from their logos and colours to why they believe they’re an essential service within their community.

“It was fascinating hearing about everyone’s story. They were all small operators,” says Liezl.

Workshop two was titled Winning in a Competitive Market: Strategies for Success in the Cleaning Industry. Using a range of case studies, the workshop showcased how best to manage Health and Safety within a cleaning company. Liezl said this workshop highlighted the importance of documentation in creating a strong legal framework should a company ever need it.

Alongside workshops, Liezl attended numerous presentations that covered a range of interesting topics, such as hygiene, sustainability, future-proofing your business and maximising workplace safety.

Despite getting all that she could out of the expo, there was so much more Liezl wasn’t able to see. Perhaps she’ll need another trip to Australia in 2024?
