After extensive auditing, NZ Blood officially opened its logistics warehouse in Highbrook in October. The facility handles the processing and storing of blood, plasma and tissue. Playing a critical role in preparing the warehouse for each inspection were Auckland East franchise owners Gurvinder Singh and Ruby Kaur, who now oversee the day-to-day cleaning of the site.

Gurvinder and Ruby go to NZ Blood six days a week to clean the large admin areas and plasma room of the warehouse. They describe it as a “double clean” process. First, they remove all dirt from every surface, including walls, ceilings, and floors, ensuring there’s absolutely no trace of dust. They then follow up with a damp wipe and finish by thoroughly drying the surfaces.

Cleaning a site NZ Blood Highbrook is not without its challenges. The facility is home to specialised equipment to safely store blood and medical supplies. Trained in healthcare cleaning, Gurvinder, Ruby and their employees understand the importance of obtaining the highest standard of hygiene at NZ Blood.

“We have to follow exact procedures, especially in the plasma room,” says Gurvinder.

Before the site opened, NZ Blood underwent two comprehensive audits. Gurvinder and Ruby prepared the facility for these audits, ensuring it met the strict criteria needed to pass.

“We did two deep cleans before they went live, preparing everything for audits. The team were very happy with these cleans,” says Ruby

“We cleaned everything for these audits – ceiling, floor, walls, warehouse area – everything,” Gurvinder adds.

NZ Blood Facilities Manager Ima Finau says NZ Blood Highbrook requires a thorough, medical-grade clean that Gurvinder and Ruby handle with ease.

“They have experience with hospitals and surgical theatres, so it’s really good to have them. They know what they’re doing and what to look for,” says Ima.

The NZ Blood Highbrook facility operates from a 6 Green Star-certified building.

Ima praises Gurvinder and Ruby’s attention to detail. Whether it’s a regular cleaning or a more detailed task, their careful approach ensures nothing is missed.

“They’re very observant. They definitely have an eye for detail,” she says.
