Tauranga franchisee Kit Sison has been looking after Mount Maunganui College for almost four years, and in that time, he’s built a great relationship with the school. Wanting to give back to his valued customers, Kit came up with a simple yet thoughtful way to make a difference.

He had noticed that the school’s bins were a bit of a mixed bag – different sizes, different liners, and not the most efficient system. So, he had a chat with Tauranga Regional Master Franchisee Jan Lichtwark, who was more than happy to help. Together, they came up with the idea to donate 200 matching bins.

“I wanted to give something back to Mount College and I saw some of their rubbish bins needed replacing,” says Kit.

“They are valued customers and they’re very good to me.”

Jan, who has always been keen to support local schools, was impressed by Kit’s idea. The new standardised bins mean no more scrambling to find the right-sized liners, reducing plastic waste and making life easier for the school’s property team.

Mount Maunganui College Property Manager Jules Clayton is thrilled with the donation.

“For years, we’ve had to order different sized bin bags to go in the different sizes of bins. And if the bag’s too big, it just fills the bin,” says Jules.

“Standardising it will definitely make things easier.”

And the benefits don’t stop there. With the older bins now freed up, the school has plenty of extras for events – something they didn’t have before.

“It’s a good initiative and if it helps keep the school tidy, it’s great for us,” says Jules.

Kit is ready to help distribute the bins across the school’s 96 classrooms, with the existing metal bins being repurposed for communal areas.

For Jules and the team at Mount Maunganui College, Kit’s efforts haven’t gone unnoticed.

“One of the great things about CrestClean is that we have a good team here. Kit is revered throughout the school,” says Jules.

“He’s Mr Helpful.”
