Chris Wedding strengthens leadership skills through Pathways to the Future scholarship

Auckland West Business Manager Chris Wedding recently received a Pathways to the Future scholarship to complete a Strategic Partnerships course at the University of Auckland.

Pathways to the Future is a partnership with the Rosebank Business Association (RBA) focused on supporting and growing emerging leaders. The programme offers scholarships that allow individuals to complete a course of their choice at the University of Auckland, removing cost barriers and making it easier to upskill and invest in their future.

The CrestClean Auckland West team has been part of the RBA for many years, and Business Manager Chris Wedding was recently selected to receive one of these scholarships. He chose a short business course focused on strategic partnerships. While he’s taken similar courses in the past, this was his first time completing one through the Pathways scholarship programme. He says the courses are exceptionally well run, with lecturers who are clearly passionate about what they teach.

“It was an absolutely fantastic course, and I would recommend it to anyone,” says Chris.

The two-day course was fast-paced and highly engaging, using a mix of learning styles to keep participants involved. The room was filled with people who genuinely wanted to learn, creating an energised and focused environment. With an eclectic mix of attendees, from CFOs to managers, Chris found himself surrounded by like-minded professionals.

“All sorts of different people go to these courses, and everyone learns something new,” he says.

“It’s not only a time for learning, but it’s a time for networking as well.”

Chris also praised the lecturer’s ability to keep everyone engaged, describing him as “absolutely top-tier”.

This year marked a record for the programme, with RBA and Pathways awarding 22 scholarships – the most they have ever given out.

Pathways to the Future had a record year for scholarship recipients.

After completing their courses, scholarship recipients were recognised at an awards night hosted by Pathways to the Future and the RBA. The event acknowledges the commitment and achievement of those who have completed their studies.

“Pathways to the Future makes doing these courses more accessible,” says Chris.

Chris was encouraged to pursue further learning by CrestClean board member Marty Perkinson, who is also a former lecturer at the University of Auckland. Marty advised him to take as many short business courses as possible to broaden his management knowledge.

With plans to undertake more courses over the next six months, Chris is keen to continue building his skills and investing in his professional development.
