The Gore district is well services by a vibrant education sector. With a total of 11 primary schools, one intermediate and five secondary schools, you will spoilt for choice with what one to choose to send your children to.

The Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) is located in Invercargill and offers a huge array of zero fee courses. Gore has a SIT feeder campus, which runs many of the same zero fee courses providing the opportunity to up skill.

When it comes to sport and recreation, there is something to suit everyone’s taste in Gore.

The Mataura River has a worldwide reputation for being one of the best trout fishing rivers in the world. The Matarua Valley and Southland is described as an angler’s paradise. Anglers from all over the world visit Gore to fish between October and April.

There are a number of excellent sporting facilities in Gore. These include Gore’s scenic 18 hole golf course, a Mountain Bike and a BMX track, skate park, a croquet green, a number of tennis courts bowling greens. Gore also plays host to a number of amateur rugby and netball competitions.

For keen mountain bikers, the Hokonui Loop Mountain Bike track, which was developed by local enthusiasts, winds through native bush and can be ridden in all weather.

 

 

The Gore Multisport Complex is home to an Olympic short course sized ice rink, an aquatic centre and an indoor sports stadium, which offers sporting, and fitness activities all year round.

The Dolamore Park Scenic Reserve combines a native podocarp forest, expansive lawn areas and exotic plantings. The reserve offers a pleasant location for camping and family picnics over the summer months.

The award-winning public gardens in the heart of Gore are home to a number of rare plant species and offer a riot of colour. The Rhododendron Festival is held in October.

Bannerman Park features a deer park and is set in a picturesque valley with streams and ponds.
